I was in Rochester, New York this week, and there happened to be a fantastic exhibition at the George Eastman House on oil in the Niger Delta. The display included photographs and a short film by Ed Kashi of National Geographic. The images were taken from Kashi’s book, “The Curse of the Black Gold: 50 Years of Oil in the Niger Delta.”

If you aren’t in the Rochester area, and don’t have the money to purchase his book, I’d recommend previewing the images and film on the book website. They are truly stunning.

To become better acquainted with the myriad issues related to oil in Nigeria, and oil in Africa, read John Ghazvinian’s book Untapped: The Scramble for Africa’s Oil.
